What’s is Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pump ?

An Air- Operated Double- Diaphragm pump (AODD) is a type of positive relegation pump. It consists of two pumping chambers that are alternatively filled and discharged by the movement of flexible diaphragms.  Compressed air is fed to and vented from air chambers on the opposite sides of the diaphragms to create the pumping action. AODD pumps are generally used for transfer operations and can handle colorful feeds, including sludge’s, slurries, abrasive and shear sensitive fluids. Although they're robust, dependable, and easy to maintain, they can be a little noisy and are limited to medium pressure operations.

How Aodd Pump Work

The compressed air forced the 1st side of the flexible diaphragm to move froth, squeezing the liquid on another side of the diaphragm to take the chamber’s outward path through NRV.
Once this action is completed, the air pressure shifts to the 2nd flexible diaphragm chamber. When the other diaphragm moves forth, it pulls the first diaphragm backward through the linkage rod.
The 1st diaphragm back creates suction in the 1st chamber due to suction/ Vacuum, and the liquid enters the first chamber.
Repetition of the same process follows. i.e., Suction in 1st chamber, discharge of 2nd chamber. Suction in 2nd chamber and discharge of 1st chamber.

When you're in charge of a factory with a lot of equipment and machinery, you understand the importance of maintaining everything running as smoothly as possible to guarantee that your production schedule is met and downtime is minimised. Unanticipated downtime has a significant negative impact on earnings and must be avoided at all costs. Air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps are recognized for their dependability, like any other equipment. To ensure long-term durability, they require routine maintenance and repair. AODD pumps are simple to keep because they only have a few parts. Because there are fewer components, the pump requires less maintenance than other types of pumps. In this article, we'll go over the guidelines and methods for keeping your AODD pump in optimal operating condition so that it can operate effectively.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE

Instead of waiting for something to go wrong, create a preventative maintenance strategy that calls for regular maintenance. Check with your pump maker or local distributor for complete air side and wet side repair kits for fast and easy servicing.

FILTER AND REGULATE COMPRESSED AIR

Most compressors expel warm, wet, dirty air that can often damage or reduce the lifespan of connected equipment such as AODD pumps.

To solve this problem, compressed air needs to be filtered and regulated. Having clean, regulated air is crucial for pump operation without any issues. Filter regulators not only act as a filter but also pressure regulators by getting rid of solid and liquid contaminants while controlling the airflow at the same time.

INSTALL PULSATION DAMPENERS

When an AODD pump is operating, it creates pulsating motions in the liquid being pumped. Pulsation dampeners (also known as surge suppressors, surge dampeners, and tranquillizers) are simple devices that prevent pulsating flows while also protecting your equipment and providing constant downstream pressure levels.

CONTROL LEAKS

Leaks can cause downtime, revenue loss, and, if you're working with strong fluids like those used in chemical processing, they might pose a serious health risk to your staff and the surrounding environment. Leak detection equipment may be used to check the integrity of your AODD's diaphragm using visual, electrical, or mechanical leak detectors. When pumping hazardous or pricey liquids, leak detection solutions are beneficial and suggested.
